Who is "the invisible man of rock 'n' roll"? Mickey Thomas - that's who!
Many music aficionados probably aren't aware that we probably aren't aware that Mickey Thomas sang the lead vocals for Elvin Bishop Band's 1976 hit "Fooled Around And Fell In Love." His voice was leading on the hits "Jane," "Sara", We Built This City", "Stranger", "No Way Out", "Find Your Way Back", "It's Not Over ('Til It's Over)" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," among others.
"I was going lead vocals for Elvin Bishop, and it said Elvin Bishop Band on the record label, so people naturally assume if they didn't know better that Elvin Bishop was the vocalist," Thomas explains. "So I've been trying to educate people in that regard for many years. And then in spite of the many hits I had with STARSHIP, because a lot of the times I was in the band at the same time as Grace Slick or I was following in the footsteps of Marty Balin, quite often people didn't put my name together with the songs. So I am still trying to overcome that.".
Mickey Thomas was
in the Elvin Bishop Band 1976-1979, then left to climb aboard the STARSHIP
in April 1979, replacing Marty Balin as lead singer.
"
My 12 years with STARSHIP was much like a history of the band" Mickey
Thomas says. "It
was complex, convoluted, with peaks and valleys, changes in personnel
and in musical direction. But for the most part it was fun, and I have
fond memories of it all, because the things that last are the really
good moments anyway."
All the good moments and Mickey Thomas's stunning voice can be experienced in a high energy 75 minute show packed with the STARSHIP hits!
