ENTERTAINER DETAIL: Doc Severinsen and His Big Band
Doc Severinsen and His Big Band is available for concerts and personal appearances at your next corporate or special event.

Doc Severinsen booking informationDoc Severinsen's achievements date back to his hometown of Arlington, Oregon. Nicknamed "Little Doc" after his father, Dr. Carl Severinsen, a dentist, Little Doc had originally wanted to play the trombone, but the senior Severinsen, a gifted amateur violinist, urged him to study violin. The younger Severinsen insisted on the trombone, but had to settle for the only horn available in their small community – a trumpet. One week later with the help of his father and a book of instructions, the seven-year-old was so good that he was invited to join the high school band. At the age of twelve, Little Doc Severinsen won the Music Educator's National Contest and, while still in high school, was hired to go on the road with the famous Ted Fio Rito Orchestra.

Doc Severinsen and His Big Band booking informationAfter completing his education and service in the Army, Doc Severinsen toured with the Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Charlie Barnet bands. He finally settled down in New York as an NBC staff musician in 1949, joined "The Tonight Show" Orchestra in 1962 and became Musical Director in 1967.

Doc Severinsen performs in a vivid array of exhilarating styles – with a varied array of exhilarating groups. One of the most dynamic and certainly the most dazzling instrumentalists, Severinsen travels the country performing with symphonic orchestras, jazz and big bands, making recordings and commercials, and designing and manufacturing trumpets. The versatile Doc Severinsen is (or has been) the Principal Pops Conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Phoenix Symphony. His performances are consistently sold out.

Book Doc Severinsen todayKnown to television audiences as the flamboyant Grammy Award-winning Music Director of "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson," Doc Severinsen continues to play sizzling jazz and big band tunes with former members of the "Tonight Show Band." His group is composed of the best of that show's musicians – Ed Shaughnessy on drums, Snooky Young and Conte Candoli on trumpets – and now tours the country as Doc Severinsen and His Big Band.
